Paint coverage: how to read labels and avoid buying the wrong gallons

Home · Blog

Coverage printed on a paint can is a lab-style target, not a guarantee for your walls. Rough drywall, deep bases, and high-contrast color changes all pull extra product. Build estimates from measured wall area, then add a defensible buffer for roller load and touch-ups.

Ceilings and trim

Ceilings often use flat or matte whites that hide roller marks, while trim may use a different sheen entirely. Split line items so you do not accidentally thin the wrong product across surfaces.

Use the paint calculator

Enter perimeter, height, openings, coats, and coverage in the paint calculator, then read how many gallons of paint do I need for gallon math patterns.
