Renovation measurement checklist before you order materials

Home · Blog

Start every renovation with a written checklist so you do not reorder materials after the first delivery. Measure each room twice, label longest walls, and record ceiling height even when you are only shopping flooring—paint and trim decisions often follow in the same phase.

What to photograph

Capture transitions, stair nosings, exterior door swings, and any floor height changes. Photos reduce ambiguity when you email numbers to a showroom.

Pair with calculators

After you finish notes, enter dimensions into the Square Footage Estimator and compare module outputs to your hand totals. Disagreements usually trace back to unit switches or closets included in one total but not the other.

Open the main calculator or jump straight to the room calculator, flooring planner, or paint planner.
